About KoukoutsiHigh quality on your table
Koukoutsi is the greek word of the drupe (or stone fruit).
It is the idea and philosophy of our organic, extra virgin olive oil carefully produced in our family land in Filiatra (Messinia). Messinia, is the land of the Olive Tree and of the Olive Oil, yields the world famous Kalamata Olives and Kalamata Olive Oil, particularly the Messinia Olive Oil, a 100% pure and natural fruit juice of the highest quality and of unique nutritional value.
The climate, with endless hours of sunshine during summer and rainy in winter, contribute to the production of the finest fruit.
And the result? Sun-ripened olives with a pithy, tart and often spicy taste. Olive oil connoisseurs know: “Only when it burns is it high-quality olive oil“.
Our goal is to bring original taste to your home. Our products are premium quality, authentic and does not exceed the acidity of 0.4%.
Curious? Then try our olive oil and let yourself be surprised by the variety of flavours.
Our storyHow it all began...
In 1950
Dionisis Alexopoulos started the family business in 1950 with a dream to produce pure, organic olive oil. At that time, he was considered a revolutionary and a pioneer because, unlike many others, he cultivated the olives organically.
The Family Farm
The pure, original taste of "Koukoutsi" is owed to him. The olives were not only organically cultivated, but also climate-neutrally (without knowing it, of course). Due to the location of our olive groves, that are at an altitude of over 500 metres, there are sometimes hardly any passable roads to bring the harvested olives to the oil pressing plant, and so donkeys were used.
Today
Today, we often carry our harvest to the oil pressing plant with donkeys, as we not only support this idea, but also want to keep the tradition.
Since our products stand out for their authentisity and their purity, let us introduce ourselves.
We are Dimitris and Eva! We actually had nothing to do with olive oil. Dimitris is a plumber and Eva is a foreign language teacher. But it was meant to carry the tradition...
One sunny February afternoon, Eva went cycling in the mountains of Messinia and accidentally met Dimitris. They fell in love and became a couple. Unfortunately, that same week, Dimitris' beloved grandfather passed away. Dimitris inherited a part of the groves, soon founded "Koukoutsi" along with his partner with the goal to keep the family tradition alive.
